BMW has reached a major milestone in its performance-car history, with the one-millionth BMW M vehicle rolling off the production line at the automaker’s Plant Munich in Germany.
The milestone vehicle is a G80-generation BMW M3 sedan finished in Individual Fire Orange III, a colour first introduced on the E92 M3 GTS in 2010.
One Million BMW M Cars Produced
Plant Munich has been manufacturing vehicles for more than a century and has played a key role in BMW M production for over five decades.
The one-millionth M model was presented during a ceremony by Plant Munich head Peter Weber to BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel. The milestone arrives six years after production of the current-generation M3 began.
The G80 M3 is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine producing 375 kW and 650 Nm. Power is delivered through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and BMW’s specialised M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
BMW M3 Leads the Performance Line-Up
The M3 continues to occupy a key position within BMW’s performance portfolio, combining everyday practicality with performance capabilities suited to both road and racetrack use.
BMW’s upcoming M350 xDrive produces 326 kW and 580 Nm, with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and xDrive. The model will form part of the initial South African 3 Series line-up ahead of the arrival of the next-generation M3.
Plant Munich Prepares for an Electric Future
BMW is also preparing for a major transformation at Plant Munich. From 2027, the facility will transition exclusively to fully electric vehicle production.
The plant will manufacture the electric BMW i3, including an M variant, as part of BMW’s wider investment in next-generation vehicle production.
BMW has committed approximately €2 billion across two German facilities to prepare for the upcoming G50 generation and its electric counterpart. Plant Munich will receive around €650 million of that investment to support the transition to electric vehicle manufacturing.
The one-millionth M vehicle therefore represents both a major achievement for BMW’s performance division and a significant moment before the historic Munich facility enters a new electric era.
