Fiat has supplied the Governorate of the Vatican City State with a fleet of 30 fully electric vehicles as part of the Vatican’s Ecological Conversion 2030 programme, an initiative aimed at achieving a zero-emission vehicle fleet by the end of the decade.
The agreement includes a combination of Fiat’s Topolino and Tris electric models, which will be used to support the day-to-day operations of Governorate employees. An initial delivery of 20 vehicles was officially handed over during a ceremony at the Governorate’s headquarters, attended by Fiat Chief Executive Olivier François and the Vatican’s Secretaries General, Archbishop Emilio Nappa and Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi.
The Ecological Conversion 2030 programme forms part of the Vatican’s broader sustainability strategy to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmentally responsible operations. By transitioning its internal fleet to electric mobility, the Governorate aims to significantly reduce the environmental impact of its transport activities while setting an example for sustainable institutional fleet management.
The deployment of both the Topolino and Tris models demonstrates the growing role of compact electric vehicles beyond personal transportation. While the Topolino is designed for urban mobility, the Tris provides a practical solution for light-duty operational tasks, enabling the Vatican to meet a variety of transport requirements using zero-emission vehicles.
For Fiat, the agreement highlights the expanding opportunities for electric micromobility within institutional and commercial fleet applications. As governments, municipalities, and organisations worldwide seek to reduce emissions and operating costs, compact electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly attractive option for internal transport and last-mile logistics.
The Vatican partnership also reflects a broader global shift towards fleet electrification, with public institutions leading efforts to adopt cleaner transportation technologies that support national and organisational sustainability targets.
Following the handover ceremony, Fiat showcased its complete micromobility portfolio and future mobility vision during a separate event in Rome, reinforcing the company’s commitment to advancing practical, sustainable urban transport solutions.
