Hyundai has confirmed the powertrain specifications for the new-generation Tucson Hybrid, delivering increased performance and improved efficiency.
Hyundai has revealed details of the hybrid powertrain that will be offered in the new 2027 Tucson, following the unveiling of the fifth-generation SUV earlier this month.
The 2027 Tucson Hybrid will use Hyundai’s new TMED-II FF hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors. The system produces a combined 180 kW and 380 Nm, representing increases of 5 kW and 13 Nm respectively over the hybrid system used in the current Santa Fe.
Hyundai claims the new Tucson Hybrid will achieve an average fuel consumption of 5.7 L/100 km, while accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
Larger and More Spacious
The new Tucson has also grown significantly compared with the outgoing fourth-generation model. It is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 20 mm taller, while its wheelbase has increased by 40 mm to 2,785 mm.
The increased dimensions give the Tucson a larger footprint and position it competitively against models including the Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage and Mazda CX-5.
Hyundai has designed the new Tucson around its latest “Art of Steel” design language, bringing a more distinctive exterior while retaining the practical SUV format.
Hybrid Technology Takes Centre Stage
The introduction of the TMED-II FF system highlights Hyundai’s continued development of hybrid technology as manufacturers seek to combine lower fuel consumption with improved performance.
With 180 kW and 380 Nm, the new Tucson Hybrid offers stronger outputs than the current Santa Fe hybrid system while maintaining a claimed fuel consumption figure of 5.7 L/100 km.
Further powertrain details and market-specific specifications are expected to be confirmed as Hyundai prepares the new Tucson for its global rollout.
