Honda Launches UNI-ONE Personal Mobility Device in Japan

Honda has begun sales of its UNI-ONE personal mobility device in Japan, targeting corporate customers in offices, workplaces, and large-scale facilities.

Designed as a “mobility device to be used at destinations,” UNI-ONE supports movement within large venues or work environments and can also assist seniors or individuals who may find extended walking difficult. The seated device is steered by shifting body weight, enabling hands-free movement in all directions at walking speed.

Developed using robotics expertise gained from projects such as the ASIMO humanoid robot, UNI-ONE is intended to reduce strain on the legs and lower back, encouraging greater mobility and participation for those who might otherwise avoid long distances.

The device is the successor to earlier Honda prototypes including the U3-X (2009) and UNI-CUB (2012). First showcased at the International Robot Exhibition in 2022, it has since undergone extensive testing with exhibitions and trial customers. In 2025, it received type certification as a “small mobility vehicle,” allowing legal use on public roads in Japan at speeds of up to 6 km/h under safety regulations.

Honda has been running paid trials with partners since 2023 in preparation for mass production. The company says UNI-ONE may ease workloads in workplaces by enabling users to move as naturally as walking while keeping their hands free, potentially boosting productivity and supporting a more diverse workforce.

The initiative forms part of Honda’s wider mission to expand the “joy and freedom of mobility” through robotics and personal mobility solutions.
