XPENG Unveils AI-Powered L03 Across 65 Global Markets as Smart Mobility Expands

As Africa’s automotive sector embraces connected vehicles, electric mobility and intelligent transport solutions, global manufacturers are introducing increasingly advanced technologies that could shape the continent’s future mobility landscape. Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPENG has taken a significant step in this direction with the simultaneous global launch of its new L03 AI SUV Coupé across 65 international markets.

The launch marks XPENG’s first model to debut simultaneously in Europe and China, reflecting the company’s growing international ambitions and the increasing role of software-driven innovation in the automotive industry.

Available in both battery-electric (BEV) and range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) variants, the L03 combines aerodynamic design with artificial intelligence, advanced driver assistance systems and connected vehicle technologies aimed at delivering a smarter driving experience.

Designed by former Ferrari exterior design chief JuanMa Lopez, the L03 features a sleek coupé-SUV profile with a drag coefficient of 0.228, improving aerodynamic efficiency and helping maximise vehicle range.

Inside, the vehicle offers a technology-focused cabin equipped with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a wide-field head-up display, lounge-style seating and 37 storage compartments. The SUV also provides a 1,500 kg towing capacity, making it suitable for both everyday driving and recreational use.

One of the L03’s most significant innovations is its intelligent driving platform. The vehicle is powered by three XPENG Turing AI chips, delivering a combined 2,250 tera operations per second (TOPS) of computing performance. This processing capability supports the company’s Next Generation Pilot (NGP) autonomous driving system, which is built on XPENG’s VLA 2.0 physical-world AI model and is expected to roll out in European markets from 2027.

The L03 also debuts XOS 6, XPENG’s latest intelligent cockpit operating system, featuring multilingual AI voice interaction capable of understanding contextual commands, providing a more natural and personalised driving experience.

Further strengthening its connected vehicle ecosystem, XPENG has partnered with Google to integrate Google Maps Auto SDK directly into the vehicle. The collaboration makes XPENG the first Asia-Pacific automaker to embed the platform natively, allowing drivers to access navigation without relying on smartphone mirroring while also supporting advanced driver assistance features such as NGP and XPilot Assist.

Beyond passenger vehicles, XPENG continues expanding its broader Physical AI strategy, which includes the development of humanoid robots, autonomous mobility technologies and robotaxi services. The company expects its IRON humanoid robot to enter global markets from 2027 while evaluating future partnerships for autonomous mobility solutions outside China.

As electric vehicle adoption gradually accelerates across Africa, supported by growing investment in charging infrastructure, renewable energy and smart mobility initiatives, technologies such as AI-powered driver assistance, connected navigation and intelligent vehicle operating systems are expected to become increasingly relevant. Manufacturers that combine electrification with advanced digital capabilities are likely to play an important role in shaping the next generation of mobility across the continent.
