Renault is bringing one of its most recognisable performance models back into the spotlight with the new 8 Gordini Concept, an all-electric interpretation of the 1960s rally icon set to make its public debut at the 2026 Paris Motor Show.
The concept follows Renault’s recent heritage-inspired projects, including the 5 Turbo 3E, as the French automaker continues to reinterpret historic performance models through modern electric technology.
Classic Gordini Heritage Reimagined
The original Renault 8 Gordini was launched in 1964 as a rear-wheel-drive performance model. With its lightweight construction and 70 kW output, it became known as an effective but demanding car and served as a training platform for rally drivers, including Jean Ragnotti.
For the new concept, Renault has moved away from the original four-door layout and created a two-door coupé with a more dynamic stance.
The 8 Gordini Concept measures 4,120 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,270 mm high. Its design incorporates a wide track, prominent wheel arches and large wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.
Rear-Mounted Electric Power
The concept combines its heritage-inspired design with an electric powertrain. A rear-mounted electric motor produces 201 kW, continuing the rear-driven character associated with the original Gordini.
Renault Vice President of Design Alexandre Malval said the design team updated the distinctive styling of the original model while giving the concept a more dynamic appearance.
The flowing cabin, wide stance and larger rear wheels are intended to emphasise the car’s road-focused character while retaining visual links to the original rear-engined model.
Motorsport-Inspired Interior
Inside, the 8 Gordini Concept combines modern materials with details referencing the brand’s racing heritage.
The dashboard and centre console feature brushed aluminium, while Alcantara upholstery is used throughout the cabin. Racing-inspired stitching on the door panels is designed to resemble racetrack kerbs.
The bucket seats also carry Gordini branding, reinforcing the connection between the electric concept and Renault’s performance history.
Renault’s Electric Heritage Strategy
The 8 Gordini Concept forms part of Renault’s broader approach to bringing historic models and design themes into its modern vehicle portfolio. Its combination of retro-inspired styling, electric propulsion and motorsport references positions the concept as a contemporary interpretation of one of Renault’s best-known performance nameplates.
The concept will be showcased at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, where Renault is expected to provide further details about its heritage-focused design direction.
