Toyota has expanded its flagship Land Cruiser 300 range in South Africa with the introduction of a new twin-turbo petrol hybrid powertrain, bringing improved performance and efficiency while retaining the SUV’s established off-road capability.
The new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 hybrid joins the existing diesel-powered models and will initially be offered in ZX specification before being introduced to the GR-S derivative. Toyota has also confirmed that the ZX will now be available exclusively with the hybrid powertrain, strengthening the role of electrification within the premium Land Cruiser range.
The updated Land Cruiser 300 range receives several exterior and interior enhancements, including new colour options such as Magnetite Black and Classic White. Revised colour availability across the GX-R, ZX and GR-S derivatives further differentiates the various specifications.
Inside, the Land Cruiser continues to combine premium comfort with practical functionality. The ZX features upgraded trim finishes, while the GR-S offers a more adventure-oriented interior. A 1 500W AC inverter positioned beneath the centre console provides additional power for electrical equipment, while Toyota Connect services, in-car Wi-Fi and complimentary data improve connectivity.
The new hybrid powertrain combines a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine with Toyota’s hybrid system to deliver a combined 341kW of power and 790Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing strong performance while maintaining the Land Cruiser’s off-road capabilities.
Toyota is also offering an eight-year or 160 000km warranty on the hybrid battery, supporting confidence in the long-term durability of the electrified powertrain.
The expanded Land Cruiser 300 range starts at R1,596,800 for the diesel GX-R, while the flagship petrol GR-S HEV is priced at R2,343,800. All models receive a three-year or 100,000km vehicle warranty together with a nine-service or 90,000km service plan.
The introduction of hybrid technology into the Land Cruiser 300 range marks another step in Toyota’s electrification strategy while maintaining the performance, durability and off-road capability expected from its flagship SUV.
