Exotec implements its Skypod automated storage and retrieval system in Berrang Group’s Ingersheim warehouse

Exotec, a provider of innovative warehouse automation solutions and scalable robotics systems, has announced its partnership with the Berrang Group, a large-scale wholesaler of mechanical fastening technology.

Berrang Group has implemented Exotec’s Skypod shuttle-based automated storage and retrieval system in its newly built warehouse in Ingersheim (Baden-Württemberg),  Germany, which supplies the automotive, optoelectronics, medical technology and mechanical engineering industries with C-parts ranging from screws, nuts and bolts to fully pre-assembled components.

Berrang’s new warehouse needed a suitable intralogistics system to supply nearby industrial customers with required individual parts and to ensure just-in-time delivery for all.

Exotec’s Skypod system – now operational in Berrang’s Ingersheim warehouse – hosts more than 23,000 bins and 7,000 trays at a rack height of 12 metres. It produces a throughput of 137 bin movements per hour, ideal for Berrang’s small-parts business and the strict time requirements.

Andreas Essewein, project manager for logistics and operations planning at Berrang, says: “The Skypod system is highly flexible and ideal for our just-in-time delivery requirements at Berrang, where every single minute matters.

“The strong support from Exotec has been extremely helpful during implementation and is already paying off as our warehouse operations have become more efficient.”

Andreas Stöckl, EVP sales at Exotec, says: “This project demonstrates the potential of the Skypod system for suppliers serving production and industry, even under the strictest requirements in highly specialised sectors, especially where the smooth supply of manufacturing facilities is paramount.

“We are very pleased about the trust that the Berrang Group places in us and the close collaboration we have achieved.”
