BAE Systems unveils two prototypes of its Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle.

BAE Systems is showcasing two prototypes of the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) at AUSA 2024. One of the highlights is a new AMPV prototype equipped with a 30mm turret, alongside the AMPV Modular Turreted Mortar System (MTMS), which recently completed evaluations at the U.S. Army’s Yuma Test Center. A key feature of the AMPV is BAE Systems’ common top plate, which allows for the easy integration of various mission equipment packages and is compatible with over 30 different turret systems.

This latest configuration marks the fifth prototype unveiled by BAE Systems in the past year and features the KONGSBERG Medium Caliber Turret (MCT). This compact, lightweight remote turret system has been selected by the U.S. Marine Corps for use on their 30mm Amphibious Combat Vehicle program.

The AMPV MTMS prototype integrates the common top plate with the KONGSBERG/Patria NEMO remote-controlled 120mm turreted mortar system. BAE delivered this prototype to the Army in January 2024 for comprehensive field evaluations, which included a successful live fire demonstration on September 10 at the Maneuver Warfighter Conference in Fort Moore, Georgia.

In addition to these prototypes, BAE has developed three other systems configured onto the AMPV in the past year, including a counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) turret, an unmanned 30mm turret, and a medium caliber 30mm weapon system, all utilizing the same common top plate for adaptability.

Moreover, BAE Systems is nearing completion of its efforts to expand the AMPV production line in York, Pennsylvania. This ongoing investment aims to enhance the company’s capacity and technology, allowing for faster delivery of capabilities to the Army at higher volumes.
