Volvo Group and Daimler Truck, two global leaders in the commercial vehicle sector, have officially launched Coretura AB, a joint venture dedicated to developing a next-generation software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, Coretura aims to establish a new industry standard for digital architecture in commercial vehicles.
This milestone follows the signing of binding joint venture agreements on October 28, 2024, and the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals. Coretura began operations in early June 2025, marking the start of a new era in intelligent and connected vehicle technology.
“With Coretura, we are setting a clear strategic focus on software development for commercial vehicles,” said Karin Rådström, President and CEO of Daimler Truck.
“This is an exciting leap forward—not just for us, but for the entire industry. We’re paving the way for smarter, more connected, and more efficient trucks and buses.”
Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of Volvo Group, added:
“Coretura represents a bold evolution in our industry. By harnessing cutting-edge technology and joint innovation, we’re creating a platform that advances both connectivity and sustainability in commercial transport.”
Unlocking the Digital Core of Future Vehicles
Coretura’s mission is to build the non-differentiating core of a software-defined commercial vehicle. This includes a standardized, open SDV platform and a dedicated commercial vehicle operating system, enabling manufacturers to build and update digital vehicle applications independently.
The platform will include the specification and procurement of high-performance central control units, designed to process large volumes of data. This decouples software and hardware development timelines, allowing digital functions to be continuously improved and updated wirelessly—“over the air”—enhancing efficiency, safety, and user experience.
Leadership and Growth Strategy
Coretura will be led by a four-member Executive Management Team, with equal representation from both Volvo Group and Daimler Truck. Johan Lundén has been appointed CEO, bringing deep expertise from his previous role overseeing strategic product planning, innovation management, and project leadership at Volvo Group.
“This joint venture combines the agility of a start-up with the strength and experience of two global industry leaders,” said Lundén.
“We’re excited to lead the digital transformation of commercial vehicles, supported by our shareholders and in collaboration with forward-looking partners.”
Coretura will initially launch with approximately 50 employees, with plans to scale based on technical milestones and market demand. The company will follow a co-development approach, working closely with customers and partners to deliver its first products before the end of the decade.
Open Collaboration, Distinct Brands
While Volvo Group and Daimler Truck will continue to compete in the marketplace, each offering unique products and digital services, Coretura will serve as a shared foundation for innovation across the industry. The joint venture is open to collaboration with new and existing suppliers and partners who align with its vision for the future.
