Siemens will enhance Unibuss’ electric fleet by implementing Depot360, a solution designed to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has entered into a contract with Unibuss, a major bus operator in the Greater Oslo region, to implement its Depot360 Managed Services solution, aimed at optimizing the operations of its fleet and charging infrastructure. This agreement marks Siemens’ introduction of Depot360 in Norway, a country leading the charge toward electric mobility.

Depot360 Managed Services addresses the specific challenges faced by electric bus operators, particularly the harsh winter conditions prevalent in Norway and the necessity for continuous monitoring of vehicle charging. With Depot360’s smart charging features, Siemens ensures that vehicles receive the appropriate amount of energy without overloading the grid, while also facilitating remote monitoring of bus charging statuses to maintain stable operations and lower energy consumption. Depot360 is part of Siemens Xcelerator, an open digital business platform that supports customers in accelerating their digital transformation effectively and efficiently.

Henrik Anderberg, Technical Director at Unibuss, emphasized the importance of transitioning to electric fleets in achieving Norway’s ambitious climate targets and serving as a global model for sustainable transportation. He noted that the right technology is essential for optimizing electric fleet efficiency. With Depot360 Managed Services, Unibuss aims to enhance operational efficiency through optimized charging, reduced energy costs, and improved route completion rates, all contributing to a greener future and a reduced carbon footprint in public transportation.

The Depot360 AI Platform enables Siemens’ experts at its 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) to utilize fleet-centric algorithms to monitor and manage the performance of the charging infrastructure. This proactive approach allows for the identification and resolution of issues based on data-driven insights, while load shifting and peak shaving features contribute to additional energy cost savings for Unibuss.

Alan White, Head of Emerging Transportation Platforms at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with innovative organizations like Unibuss to accelerate the electrification of transportation. He highlighted that Depot360 Managed Services, part of Siemens Xcelerator, will transform Unibuss’ operations, demonstrating the potential for more reliable, efficient, and transparent fleet management even in challenging conditions.

Unibuss, a subsidiary of Oslo’s municipal transport company Sporveien AS, serves 70 million passengers annually across its 51 bus routes and operates one of the largest electric bus fleets in the Nordics, comprising 259 electric buses.

Depot360 will be presented to the Norwegian market at stand 25 during the upcoming NHO Logistics and Transport conference in Oslo.
