Nidec Unveils Orchard Hub, Its Largest Manufacturing Campus in India

Nidec, the global leader in electric motors, generators, renewable energy solutions, and industrial machinery, has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing campus, Orchard Hub, in the Kotur-Belur Industrial Area of Hubli-Dharwad, Karnataka.

The inauguration marks the commencement of machinery and equipment installation across the six plants on the 50-acre campus, with production slated to begin later this year.

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Mr. M. B. Patil, Honourable Cabinet Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka, and Mr. Michael Briggs, President of Nidec Motion & Energy. Also present were Mr. Nakane Tsutomu, Consul General of Japan in Bangalore, and Mr. Marc Lamy, Consul General of France in Bangalore—highlighting the project’s importance on both regional and international levels.

A Milestone in Nidec’s India Growth Strategy

As Nidec’s eighth—and largest—facility in India, Orchard Hub represents a major step in the company’s commitment to supporting India’s industrial development and long-term economic growth. Completed within just 20 months since its groundbreaking in September 2023, the facility reflects Nidec’s focus on efficiency, strategic execution, and future-forward manufacturing.

Orchard Hub is designed to serve a range of high-growth sectors, including:

  • Generators for data centers
  • Wind turbine generators and battery energy storage systems (BESS) for renewable energy
  • Electric vehicle motors, controllers, and chargers for clean mobility
  • High-efficiency motors, drives, and system solutions across industrial applications

Equipped with advanced automation and built on Nidec’s 3Q6S lean manufacturing principles, the facility is positioned to deliver world-class products to global and domestic markets alike, with a strong focus on customer service and sustainable innovation.

Sustainability and Employment at the Core

Nidec plans to make Orchard Hub a carbon-neutral campus by 2028, leveraging solar power, microgrid systems, and BESS technologies. The facility is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs, with recruitment already underway—targeting diploma and ITI graduates from local institutions.

Leadership Voices Support for India’s Growth

Speaking at the inauguration, Michael Briggs, President of Nidec Motion & Energy, emphasized India’s growing importance:

“India’s robust economic growth presents tremendous opportunities for forward-looking companies. Under the visionary leadership of our founder, Mr. Shigenobu Nagamori, we are proud to deepen our presence here. The Orchard Hub exemplifies our dedication to supporting India’s industrial ambitions.”

Mr. Nagamori added:

“With an investment of $55 million, Orchard Hub stands at the heart of our ‘India for India’ and ‘India for Exports’ strategy. This facility goes beyond infrastructure—it represents our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and meaningful partnerships. It’s a symbol of our vision to foster local innovation and deliver zero-emission solutions tailored to India’s needs.”

Girish D. Kulkarni, President and Country Managing Director, echoed this sentiment:

“This campus is more than a physical space—it’s the embodiment of Nidec’s future in India: a center of innovation, excellence, and collaboration. We are grateful for the support from the Government of Karnataka and look forward to contributing to the region’s sustainable development.”

A Defining Chapter for Nidec in India

With the launch of Orchard Hub, Nidec strengthens its global manufacturing footprint while aligning with national initiatives like “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” This development cements Nidec’s role as a key contributor to sustainable industrial growth—both in India and on the global stage.
