Isuzu Australia is partnering with Melbourne-based Ecocycle Group to reduce the growing amount of incorrect and unsafe battery and e-waste disposal, which can pose toxicity and fire hazards to the environment.
The Ecocycle Group, under the banner of Ecobatt, are using Isuzu Trucks’ FX and F Series models to procure battery and e-wastage and transport them to purpose-built drop-off centres across various retailers, like Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Bunnings, JB Hi-Fi and Big W.
“We’re only in the beginnings of a movement here in Australia, scratching the surface of what must be done to preserve critical materials otherwise lost to landfill and presenting a major environmental issue for generations to come,” said Ecocycle Group Operations Manager Jason Zorzut.
Isuzu’s vehicles featured in Ecocycle’s 80-truck fleet carry out specific tasks to contribute to battery and e-waste collection.
The long wheel-base FXY 240-350 Autos complete intrastate material collection.
“For versatility, we’ve also fitted automated mezzanine decks on the FXYs, so the drivers can change the configuration of the vehicle at any time while they’re on the road,” said Zorzut.
The new six-cylinder FSR 140-260s are specially fitted to safely store drums for battery collection, and are wrapped in Ecobatt’s iconic green banner colour.
“We went with the FSR because we were looking for that midsize truck,” said Zorzut.
“Something that was capable of carrying the weight with a large enough tray deck to suit our needs.
“Given the nature of what we’re carting and the mix of battery waste on board, each of the vehicles has been designed specifically for the purpose of safe collection.”
Zorzut and Ecocycle aim to make a difference through their Isuzu partnership, and will continue to do so in the Melbourne area.
“We’re passionate about what we do and making a change within our industry,” said Zorzut said. “So, for us, investing in Isuzu means more time on the road, more collections and more customer satisfaction.”
